You’re doing an amazing thing – every penny you raise will help launch the WMUK Support Line, ensuring people living with WM have somewhere to turn when they have questions or feel alone. We’re not leaving you to do this by yourself – find everything you need to make the most of your walk below.

How to raise funds

Raising funds for your walk is easy when you set up a JustGiving page.

All your donations will come to WMUK automatically, and you can personalise and update the page to let people know how much you appreciate their support. Remember to share your page far and wide with friends, family, colleagues and your community so that everyone can see what a difference they can make. Read more of our top tips on starting up a giving page.

Raising funds offline? No problem. We’ve included a sponsorship form in your fundraising pack. If you need more, you can download one below in our resources section. We recommend paying in any cash you receive to your own account, and then donating your sponsorship in one go after your event.

Walking inspiration

Your Walk for Waldenstrom’s is as unique as your are! As a community, we’re trying to walk 1,700km to raise £17,000 before 17 April. Here are some of our favourite walking ideas:

  • Get social – invite friends out for a walk-and-talk. You could even bring a picnic for a half-way break (donations for cupcakes, of course!)
  • Dig out the hiking boots – feeling more adventurous? Take on a hike. Remember to bring suitable clothing and water supplies.
  • Stay safe – If you’re isolating, you can still get involved. Do laps of your garden, or challenge yourself to hike up the stairs 25, 50 or even 100 times!
  • Fancy dress – give your friends and family a giggle and dress up for your walk. We recommend a superhero outfit – after all you’re a superhero in our eyes!
  • Junior navigators – why not get children or grandchildren involved and let them set the route, you never know what interesting places you’ll end up!

Fundraising tips

Here are some handy tips for making the most of your fundraising:

  • Make sure you let people know why raising money for WMUK’s Support Line is important to you – they’ll be more likely to help if they know how much it means
  • Add some extras – perhaps you could organise a raffle, or end your walk with a BBQ or coffee morning that people donate to attend
  • Ask if your workplace does match funding. Many employers to will match up to a certain amount of employee’s fundraising, doubling what you’ve raised yourself!
  • Share your giving page, and keep on sharing! Especially if you’re on social media, a lot of people might have missed your first message, so don’t be scared to share a second or third time.
  • If you’re training for your walk, update people on your progress to show how hard you’re working

Donating your sponsorship

If you’re raising all your funds on JustGiving, you haven’t got anything to think about here – all the funds will automatically go to WMUK without you having to lift a finger. Set up a giving page here.

If you’re raising your funds offline, we recommend paying in any cash to your own bank account and then donating your sponsorship in one lump sum via our donation page. You can post your sponsorship form to us at WMUK, Foden House, 47 London Road, Alderley Edge, SK9 7JT so we can claim any eligible gift aid.

Any cheques should be made out to ‘WMUK’ and be sent to us at the same address above. Please include a note to let us know the cheque is sponsorship towards your walk.
